SMELTED AND TARNISHED
To hear this poem read aloud with commentary by the author,
Our machine coated itself in
honey and buried itself in ants.
Yet, what a beautiful
and efficient invention we were:
parents to human desire,
we groaned in the junkyard when love
became these ruined hulks.
Bliss corrodes you
to your core.
Hate, steam, and metal
hammered us each to each;
we now sell our rust.
